PayPal Development
How PayPal has developed since 2023: one paragraph per period on revenue, earnings, cash flow and drivers, most recent period first, grouped by year. NadirAlpha methodology
FY2026: PayPal
PayPal Holdings reported net revenues of 8,353 million in Q1 2026 and 8,682 million in Q2 2026, representing year-over-year growth of 7% and 5% respectively, driven primarily by total payment volume expansion 27 29. Operating income declined in both quarters, to 1,488 million in Q1 and 1,427 million in Q2, as operating expense growth outpaced revenue and compressed GAAP operating margins 27 29. Net income fell to 1,113 million in Q1 and 1,104 million in Q2, with both periods affected by losses on strategic investments compared with prior-year gains 27 29. In April 2026 the company announced a strategic reorganization targeting at least $1.5 billion in gross annualized run-rate savings over two to three years, with first phase actions expected to generate approximately $400 million in run-rate gross savings by year-end 2026 29. Following Q2 results, the company raised its full-year non-GAAP transaction margin dollars and EPS guidance 30.
FY2025: PayPal
PayPal Holdings generated net revenues of 33,172 million in FY 2025, up 4% year-over-year, driven by 7% growth in total payment volume to $1.79 trillion and higher interest and fee revenue on loans receivable, partially offset by an unfavorable hedging impact 25. Operating income rose 14% to 6,065 million, with operating margin improving to 18% from 17%, reflecting positive contributions from lower transaction expense growth 25. Net income increased 26% to 5,233 million, benefiting from higher operating income, gains on strategic investments, and a lower effective tax rate of 17% compared to 22% in the prior year 25. Operating cash flow declined 14% to 6,416 million, primarily due to a $1.2 billion increase in loan originations held for sale and $450 million in net gains on strategic investments 25. Transaction losses increased 20% to approximately $1.30 billion, driven by higher fraud losses in PayPal products including a service disruption in Germany in August 2025 triggered by a coding error 25.
FY2024: PayPal
PayPal Holdings delivered FY2024 net revenues of USD 31,797 million, a 7% increase year-over-year driven by 10% growth in total payment volume to $1.68 trillion 17. Operating income of USD 5,325 million grew 6%, while net income of USD 4,147 million was lower than in the prior year, primarily due to a $379 million decline in other income reflecting net losses on strategic investments compared to gains recorded in 2023 17. Full-year free cash flow increased 60% to USD 6,767 million, supported by higher operating income and loan receivable activity 18. PayPal initiated a global workforce reduction expected to generate approximately $575 million in annualized employee-related savings, and sold approximately $9.6 billion of European consumer installment receivables in the first half of the year under a multi-year agreement for up to €40 billion 17. Non-GAAP diluted EPS for FY2024 grew 21% to 4.65, while active accounts increased 2% to 434 million as of year-end 18.
FY2023: PayPal
PayPal Holdings reported FY 2023 net revenues of 29,771 million, up 8% year-over-year, driven by 13% growth in total payment volume to $1.53 trillion 10. Operating income grew 31% to 5,028 million and net income increased 76% to 4,246 million, with operating margin improving to 17% 10. Key structural actions included a global workforce reduction in Q1 2023 with $122 million in restructuring charges targeting $280 million in annualized savings, and a late-2023 reorganization aligning operations around consumer, small business, and large enterprise customer segments 10. PayPal entered a multi-year agreement to sell up to €40 billion of U.K. and European buy now, pay later receivables, with $5.5 billion sold during 2023, and divested Happy Returns to UPS for approximately $466 million in Q4 2023 10. PayPal returned $5.0 billion to stockholders through repurchases of approximately 74 million shares during the year 9.
