Business Model#

What the company does and how it earns its money; written AI-editorially, exclusively from the company's original reports, without any assessment of our own.

SolarEdge Technologies designs, develops, and sells DC-optimized inverter systems, power optimizers, and battery storage solutions primarily for residential and commercial solar photovoltaic installations. Products are distributed through a network of distributors and large solar installers, with revenue predominantly hardware-driven across inverters, power optimizers, and battery storage products. The company has discontinued its e-Mobility, standalone energy storage business, and PV Tracker segments to concentrate on its core power electronics and commercial storage portfolio. Manufacturing is conducted through contract manufacturers operating at U.S. facilities in Texas (inverters), Florida (power optimizers and inverters), and Utah (batteries), positioned to capture Advanced Manufacturing Production Tax Credits under the Inflation Reduction Act tied to domestic production. The Single SKU software-defined inverter platform is designed to reduce product variants and enable flexible field configuration across global markets, while the commercial CSS-OD battery line extends the company's addressable market into scalable commercial and industrial energy storage applications.

SolarEdge Technologies reported Q2 2026 revenue of $346.2 million, up 19.6% year-over-year, driven primarily by higher battery sales volume 31. The company returned to non-GAAP operating profitability with adjusted operating income of $10.2 million, the first such result since Q2 2023, and GAAP gross margin expanded to 27.5% from 11.1% in Q2 2025 – the sixth consecutive quarter of year-over-year gross margin expansion 31 32. During the quarter, SolarEdge launched the Nexis next-generation residential product portfolio in key markets and completed the relocation of the majority of contract manufacturing to U.S. facilities in Texas, Florida, and Utah, ceasing production in China, Mexico, and Hungary 31.
Management commentary on the 2026-Q2 results (8-K-EX99.1, 2026-08-05):
„Our second-quarter results mark an important milestone in SolarEdge's turnaround. Revenue grew 20% year over year, GAAP operating loss narrowed significantly, and we returned to non-GAAP operating profitability for the first time since the second quarter of 2023, while continuing to generate positive free cash flow. Strong demand in Europe combined with strength in U.S. C&I, more than offset industry-wide softness in U.S. residential, driving overall year-over-year growth. We are focused on building on this momentum by scaling the Nexis platform in our core markets and continuing to advance the SolarEdge SST to address the significant opportunity in AI factories.“ – Shuki Nir, CEO of SolarEdge 32

H.R.1 Section 45X Prohibited Foreign Entities restrictions impose manufacturing threshold requirements, and potential Treasury guidance changes could adversely affect manufacturing costs and compliance obligations 31. Approximately 7% of Israeli employees were on active reserve duty in Q2 2026 due to ongoing military conflicts, with renewed escalation posing a risk of material disruption to operations 31; the U.S. residential solar market also continued to experience industry-wide demand softness 32.

„Despite the challenges we faced in the second half of 2023, we concluded the year with $3.0 billion in revenue, just below 2022 levels. The first half of 2023 included record installations and expectations for continued growth, with a shift in the second half of the year to a weaker market due to higher interest rates and lower power prices, which resulted in an inventory buildup that slowed our shipments. Nevertheless, we believe we are well positioned for the next growth cycle in our industry due to our expanding product portfolio as well as the operational and cost reduction measures we have taken.“ – Zvi Lando, Chief Executive Officer 11
Strategic pivot 2024-02-26

2023-Q3 · Jul – Sep 2023

„The results for the third quarter fell short of our prior expectations and are reflecting a slow market environment, which has resulted in high inventory of our products in the distribution channels, in particular in Europe. While channel inventory clearing is expected to continue in coming quarters, we are optimistic about the future of the solar PV industry and are confident that our leading technology, global presence and broad product offering will enable us to continue to be a leader in this market.“ – Zvi Lando, Chief Executive Officer 8
„The adjusted guidance is unrelated to the tragic events that have unfolded in Israel. While there has been some impact on daily routines at our headquarters, our offices and facilities are open worldwide, including in Israel, and we are manufacturing and providing customer support without interruption.“ – Zvi Lando, Chief Executive Officer 7

The company's core financial figures in three views, one below the other: fiscal years (as reported; after restatements the table shows the most recent filing version, marked), half-years (6-month basis, H2 = second half on its own) and quarters (3-month basis, not cumulative). Each row is one period, most recent first. Values with a dotted underline are clickable and show the raw value, the exact source location, the scale evidence and the source; derived values additionally show their formula and inputs. All values are extracted automatically from the filings; errors are possible; please verify decision-relevant figures yourself by clicking through to the linked original.

All figures serve only to support your own investment decision and are not a recommendation; the company's original reports are authoritative.

Reported KPIs (as disclosed) (375)#

Figures the company discloses itself in addition to the standard financials; order intake, recurring revenue, user or unit counts, adjusted measures. These “story KPIs” usually slip through standard databases; here they are collected as reported, with no calculation of our own. Important: the definition comes from the company itself and can differ from firm to firm; period and source are stated next to every value.

Company-specific KPIs verbatim from the filings (English, as disclosed; not normalised). Balance-sheet and boilerplate items filtered.

FY2026

SolarEdge Technologies generated $656.7 million in revenue in the first half of fiscal year 2026, representing 29.0% growth versus the comparable 2025 period, with Q1 revenue up 46% year-over-year to $310.5 million and Q2 revenue up 19.6% to $346.2 million, driven primarily by an 86.8% increase in battery megawatt hours and a 15.4% rise in power optimizer units in Q1 (29, 31). Gross profit margin expanded year-over-year in both quarters, reaching 22.0% in Q1 2026 from 8.0% and 27.5% in Q2 2026 from 11.1%, supported by higher fixed-cost absorption from increased revenues, improved product mix favoring US-manufactured products, AMPTC recognition, and $13.6 million in IEEPA tariff refunds received in the first half (30, 31). The company returned to non-GAAP operating profitability of $10.2 million in Q2 2026, the first such result since Q2 2023, while the GAAP net loss narrowed from $124.7 million in Q2 2025 to $30.8 million (32, 31). SolarEdge consolidated manufacturing to US facilities in Texas, Florida, and Utah, discontinued production in China, Mexico, and Hungary, and launched the SolarEdge Nexis next-generation residential product portfolio in key markets during the period (30, 31). The company additionally discontinued its e-Mobility, energy storage, and PV Tracker businesses as part of a strategic portfolio rationalization (31).

FY2025

SolarEdge Technologies reported FY2025 revenue of $1,184.4 million, a 31.4% increase from $901.5 million in 2024, as normalized channel inventory in the United States and Europe drove higher inverter and power optimizer volumes, partially offset by continued price reductions primarily in Europe (28). GAAP gross margin recovered to 16.6% from a gross loss of 97.3% in 2024, primarily driven by a decrease in inventory write-down accruals from $738.8 million in 2024 to $17.8 million in 2025 (28). Net loss narrowed to $405.4 million from $1,806.4 million in 2024, and operating cash flow turned positive at $104.3 million compared to negative $313.3 million in the prior year (28). The company executed significant portfolio restructuring during 2025, discontinuing the Energy Storage Division, divesting the PV tracker business and Automation Machines unit, and shifting manufacturing to the United States (28). As of December 31, 2025, the net cash position stood at $123.5 million following the September 2025 cash settlement of $342.3 million in convertible notes (26, 27).

FY2024

SolarEdge Technologies' full-year 2024 revenue declined 69.7% to $901.5 million from $2,976.5 million in 2023, driven by substantial unexpected cancellations and push-outs of backlog from European distributors beginning Q3 2023 due to high channel inventory and slower-than-expected installation rates 20. Full-year GAAP gross margin turned deeply negative at -97.3% compared to positive 23.6% in 2023, primarily reflecting $698.3 million in inventory write-downs, lower fixed-cost absorption on materially reduced volumes, and price reductions 20. The company recorded total write-downs and impairments of approximately $1.17 billion during 2024, contributing to a GAAP net loss of $1,806.4 million versus net income of $34.3 million in 2023 19. Free cash flow deficit was $421.5 million for the full year, with Q4 2024 being the only quarter to generate positive free cash flow at $25.5 million 19. Key non-financial developments included the resignation of CEO Zvi Lando in August 2024, multiple workforce reduction programs, exits from e-Mobility and the Energy Storage businesses, and a debt maturity extension via issuance of $300 million in 2029 convertible notes used to repurchase $285 million of 2025 notes 18 20.

FY2023

SolarEdge Technologies reported full-year 2023 revenues of $2,976.5 million, a decline of 4.3% from $3,110.3 million in 2022, as a record-setting first half was offset by a severe demand reversal in the second half driven by high interest rates, lower power prices, and inventory buildup in European distribution channels 12. Q1 and Q2 2023 delivered sequential revenue records of $943.9 million (+44% year-over-year) and $991.3 million (+36% year-over-year), with GAAP gross margin reaching 32.0% 3 5. Beginning in Q3 2023, substantial unexpected cancellations and pushouts of existing backlog from European distributors caused revenues to fall to $725.3 million in Q3 and $316.0 million in Q4, with GAAP gross margin declining to 19.7% and negative territory in Q4 respectively 8 11. Full-year GAAP net income declined 63.4% to $34.3 million, operating cash flow turned negative to -$180.1 million, and year-end inventories nearly doubled to $1,443.4 million from $729.2 million at the end of 2022 12. In response, the company announced a restructuring plan in October 2023 to discontinue its light commercial vehicle e-Mobility activity, terminate manufacturing in Mexico, and reduce manufacturing capacity in China, followed by an announced 16% headcount reduction in January 2024 12.
