Gartner Business Model
What Gartner does and how the company earns its money, written AI-editorially from the original reports alone, without any assessment of our own. NadirAlpha methodology
Gartner is a global research and advisory company that delivers independent, objective insights and decision-support tools to senior business and technology leaders across industries. Gartner earns revenue through three segments: Insights, which provides subscription-based research, benchmarking, and advisory content to executives across IT, finance, HR, supply chain, marketing, and legal functions; Conferences, which generates fees from exhibitors and attendees at industry events held throughout the year; and Consulting, which provides project-based advisory services and benchmarking engagements on a labor-based billing model. The Insights segment is the largest revenue contributor, underpinned by multi-year subscription contracts whose aggregate size is tracked as contract value, providing a recurring revenue base. Conferences revenues are episodic and tied to event schedules, while Consulting revenues depend on staffing levels and project pipelines. The client base is concentrated among large enterprises and government agencies globally.

Gartner Development
The business development of Gartner period by period up to Q2 2026, each text from the original report of that period, source numbers lead to the source. NadirAlpha methodology
FY2026: Gartner
Gartner's first two reported quarters of fiscal 2026 were shaped by the February 2026 divestiture of the Digital Markets business for approximately $104.8 million net of cash transferred, which reduced year-over-year revenue comparisons while the Insights, Conferences, and Consulting segments each continued to operate 27. Q1 revenues totaled 1,511 million, with total revenues down 2% year-over-year attributed primarily to the divestiture; Insights revenues grew 3% and operating income increased to 316.1 million from $278.0 million in the prior-year period 27 28. Q2 revenues reached 1,675.9 million as Conferences revenues rose 15.5% to $244 million and Insights contract value grew 2% to $5.3 billion FX neutral; Consulting revenues declined 8.8% due to lower labor-based revenue particularly in Japan and EMEA 29 30. Adjusted EPS was up 11.4% at 3.32 in Q1 and up 23.8% at 4.37 in Q2, with diluted EPS of 4.14 in Q2 up 33.1% year-over-year 28 30. Gartner repurchased 3.3 million shares for $535 million in Q1 and 3.6 million shares for $547 million in Q2, with the Board authorizing additional repurchase capacity of $600 million in April 2026 and $500 million in July 2026 28 30.
FY2025: Gartner
Gartner generated full-year revenues of USD 6,497.2 million in 2025, an increase of 4% as reported and 3% on a foreign currency neutral basis compared to the prior year 26. The Business and Technology Insights segment, renamed from Research during Q2 2025, drove growth with Insights revenues up 5% and Conferences revenues up 11% for the year, while Consulting revenues declined 1% 26. Full-year net income was USD 729.2 million, lower year over year, primarily due to a $150.0 million goodwill impairment charge in the Digital Markets reporting unit recognized in Q3 2025, reflecting ongoing market weakness 26. Gartner repurchased 7.0 million common shares for approximately $2.0 billion in 2025 and completed its first investment-grade bond issuance, issuing $800 million in senior notes in November 2025 and bringing total debt principal to $3.0 billion at year-end 26. In January 2026, Gartner entered a definitive agreement to divest the Digital Markets business, which closed on February 5, 2026 for approximately $110.0 million 26.
FY2024: Gartner
Gartner reported full-year 2024 revenues of USD 6,267.4 million, an increase of 6% year-over-year as reported and on a foreign currency neutral basis 17. Net income grew 42% to USD 1,253.7 million, driven by a $300 million gain on event cancellation insurance claims and a lower effective tax rate, which decreased to 9.6% from 23.1% in the prior year primarily due to intercompany intellectual property transfers 18. Research revenues, representing approximately 77% of total revenues, grew 5% to $5.1 billion, with contract value up 8% on a foreign currency neutral basis to $5.3 billion 18. Conferences revenues increased 15% and Consulting revenues grew 9%, with the Conferences segment benefiting from 51 in-person events versus 47 in 2023 18. Operating cash flow increased 28% to USD 1,484.9 million for the full year, and net debt ended the year at USD 526.8 million 17.
FY2023: Gartner
Gartner's full-year 2023 revenues grew 8% to 5,907 million, with Research revenues up 6%, Conferences revenues up 30%, and Consulting revenues up 7% on a return to in-person destination conferences 10. The year included the February 2023 sale of non-core Research segment business TalentNeuron for approximately $161.1 million with a pre-tax gain of $135.4 million recognized in the first quarter 10. Full-year net income was 882.5 million, operating cash flow was 1,155.7 million, and adjusted EPS was 11.33 17 9. Research segment contract value closed at $4.8 billion, up 8% on a foreign currency-neutral basis, and net debt at year-end stood at 1,139.3 million 9 17.
Glossary
